Health is not a research project

Newsletter (#131)
We’ve made being healthy way too complicated.
You know that feeling where you want to make a change…
but you’re so bombarded with info that you just stay stuck?
Welcome to modern health.
“Should I train fasted?”
“What’s the best protein window?”
“Can I eat carbs after 6pm?”
“What if my metabolism is broken?”
“Wait, is my gut microbiome off?”
Meanwhile, Karen down the street is on her third gut reset this month…
and still eating biscuits for breakfast.
We’ve turned health into a research project—and forgotten the basics.
If you’re a cyclist trying to lose weight and actually feel good doing it, here’s what works:
1. Move more.

Most people don’t need a new workout—they just need to stop sitting so much.
You might ride for an hour… but spend the other 15 hours of your day at a desk, in the car, or on the sofa.
Weight loss (and good health) starts with moving more across your whole day.
- Walk in the morning before work.
- Take calls on your feet.
- Stretch between tasks.
- Ride your bike, of course—but don’t rely on that alone.
You don’t have to count steps or obsess over zones. Just move more than you currently do.
2. Eat mostly real food.

Not keto. Not paleo. Not low-fat or high-carb or anything in between.
Just food that was once alive.
- Veg, fruit, meat, fish, potatoes, oats, eggs, nuts, rice, beans.
- One-ingredient stuff your nan would recognize.
- If it doesn’t need a label, it’s probably a good choice.
If it comes in a packet and has to tell you it’s “healthy,” “low calorie,” or “high in protein”—that’s a red flag.
You don’t have to be perfect.
Just choose the real stuff more often than the processed stuff.
Consistency > Perfection.
3. Sleep like it actually matters.

You probably treat sleep like it’s optional.
You’re exhausted… but still scrolling at 11:47 PM.
And wondering why you’re hungry, cranky, and can’t be arsed to ride.
Sleep is the foundation of everything:
- It helps regulate hunger hormones.
- It supports recovery.
- It improves energy, focus, and decision-making.
- It makes you want to move more and eat better.
If you’ve got kids, you probably make sure they have a wind-down routine:
No screens before bed, calming bath, lights out by 8.
Now do the same for yourself.
You’re not a robot. You’re a human with a brain that needs rest.
The bottom line?
Stop trying to hack your way to health.
You don’t need to download another tracking app.
You don’t need to buy another supplement.
You don’t need to watch another YouTube breakdown on carb periodization.
You just need to do the boring stuff better than anyone else:
✅ Move more.
✅ Eat real food.
✅ Get some proper sleep.
That’s the formula.
Everything else is optional.
Let the fitness industry overcomplicate it.
You?
You’re keeping it simple—and getting real results.
P.S. I’ve been working on something behind the scenes that I’m really excited to share.
Over the weekend, I had one of those moments where everything clicked. After 15 years in private healthcare and 30,000+ health assessments delivered, I realised… most health checks just don’t cut it. They give generic advice, skip the context, and leave people confused or disappointed.
So I’m changing the game.
I’ve created a new at-home health assessment experience. A qualified nurse comes to you. You get detailed blood work on key markers like cholesterol, inflammation, and vitamin levels. I break it all down for you in a simple video. And you get three months of personalised coaching to actually do something with that info.
Right now, I’m offering it to just 10 UK-based people at a discounted price — with the coaching included for free. Want in?
